1. The relationship of the lyrics to the narrative/visuals:
In Our music video we wanted to tell s story and from research I've found that a lot of rock songs have a narrative. This picture shows the character in the narrative hugging someone then disappears. The lyric to this is ''Sometimes I think I'm fine, sometimes i think you're mine'' and i wanted the audience to think that he is not fine and he has lost someone he loved. The shot before this is one of where he is hugging another girl who doesn't disappear. I wanted this to show that he misses or would rather be with the girl who disappears rather than the one who doesn't.
2. Relationship of Music to Visuals:
I've chosen to use this shot of a green-screen of me playing the guitar because from research we have also found that the Rock genre music videos usually have the band playing instruments. At this point in the song there is a guitar solo where we thought it would be perfect for this to be. This shows the audience this music video isn't all narrative.
3. Representation of artist:
This is another green-screen but a silloette. It as Emily's idea to use this silloette idea. This idea creates a sense of mystery because the band is unknown we thought it would be effective but ironic that we don't show my face when i played an instrument this also shows the audience that i am just the singer. If you look at 2. there is a swastika which has been crossed out this helps the representation 'we want peace not war'.
4. Genre of the music:
This is James playing the drums, we thought no rock music video would be complete without a shot of the drums being played, this clearly defines it as a rock music video because not many other genres would have a close up of the drums.
5. Setting/Location:
From this shot you can easily see the setting of the shot. It looks like a garage converted into a place to rock, well that's what it is! We wanted to use this because the band is only just starting out creates the idea that this band is fresh, new and doing it for the music, which is what rock music is all about. We originally did this in front of a white background but that didn't look very effective and looked to simple.
6. Camerawork and Editing:
This shot helps set the scene of a grubby old building/flats where the singer lives and creates a negative view which links with the idea of drink and drugs which clearly links with what the song is about about a man who is addicted to them. This helps re-enforce the idea that rockers are drinkers and junkies but does show that it is a rock music video. I've used this shot to show the camerawork and editing because it required the camera to be at an angle looking up and this also fades in and out between the clips before and after.
7.Lighting:
This shot is when I am leaving one girls room then entering another room. the lyric to the is ''there are some things I don't want you to know'' where he has seen this girl then gone back to his current partner. The lighting in this shot is artifical and creates the idea that it is night and he has turned on the light to get his things and leaves. this then leads onto the next shot where he enters the room of his current partner where it is very dark.
8. Mise-en-scene:
This shot shows the singer putting drugs on a table, which we thought was effective and went with the line ''drugs not me here you should blame''. We thought that this went very well with the rock genre because of the idea that rock bands do drugs. looking at the sleeve I am wearing a black hoodie which develops the convention that rock=black clothing.
9. Intertextuality and influence of music videos:
My favorite part of the music video which took me about 2-3hours to do in time and make it work. This was my idea to use a karaoke with the words, but i did in fact get the idea from another music video; 'Better Off Dead by People On Vacation'. After meeting this band at a gig i heard this song then looked up this music video and found that the use of a green-screen with the lyrics behind worked very well.
This is the music video:
